What is the difference between Transmasculine and transman? ›

Transmasculine (sometimes clipped to transmasc) is a broader term for all trans individuals with predominantly masculine identities or gender expression, and includes trans men as well as non-binary people who were assigned female at birth and may have an identity that is partially masculine but not entirely male.

Female to Male/ FTM- a trans person who was assigned female sex, and now lives as a man and has a masculine gender identity.

For example, a male-to-female (MTF) transgender person may always wear skirts and stereotypically feminine blouses, paired with matching earrings and pristine makeup. A female-to-male (FTM) individual may wear a pressed oxford shirt and tie, dress pants and buffed shoes, and neatly trimmed short hair.

FTM top surgery requirements

Being on hormone-affirming therapy with testosterone. Completing a mental health screening. Quitting tobacco or marijuana for at least six weeks before surgery. Agreeing to stay off tobacco or marijuana for up to six weeks after surgery.

Gender affirming hormone therapy — including testosterone — isn't birth control. This means that trans men can get pregnant even if they're on testosterone (T) and even if they don't have their period. Pregnancy is possible as long as you have a uterus and ovaries, and are ovulating.

A transmasc individual is someone AFAB who identifies as masculine. It can also refer to non-binary or gender-fluid people who identify with masculinity.

The descriptors male to female (MTF) and female to male (FTM) are often used in medical and sociological literature to describe trans people, and sometimes they use them to talk about themselves.

I'll explain. FTM means “female-to-male” and is used synonymously with being a trans man (trans male is also sometimes used). The implication is that one wants to transition from living as one binary gender (female) to the other (male). So if you're a binary trans guy, you would call yourself FTM.

"Ft" is often used as an abbreviation for "feet." For example, a person might write "I am 5 ft tall," which means "I am 5 feet tall." "FT" can also stand for "full-time." This is often used to refer to a job or position that is a full-time position, meaning that the person works a regular, full-time schedule.

FTM – "Female-to-Male". A term referring to men who were assigned female-at-birth. Some trans men reject this term because they have always been a man, regardless of sex assignment. This term is considered by some to be outdated and overly focused on medical transition, while others embrace it as an identity term.

Transmasculinity is about an affiliation with the masculine side of the gender spectrum. For example, you can be masculine but not identify as a male. Likewise, you can physically transition to a more masculine state without identifying as a male.

The word cisgender (often shortened to cis; sometimes cissexual) describes a person whose gender identity corresponds to their sex assigned at birth, i.e., someone who is not transgender.
